In 1999 our two families – the Symingtons of the Douro and the Prats of Bordeaux – united our skills to reimagine the style of Douro DOC wines. Our vision was to demonstrate that the Douro Valley can produce not just great ports, but great dry red wines too. Nearly a quarter of century later, Chryseia has become an internationally recognised benchmark for elegant and fine Douro DOC red wine.

The two Prats & Symington estates – Quinta de Roriz and Quinta da Perdiz – are located in the Cima Corgo, the heart of the Douro region. The schist soil allows a natural control of the water supply, while the exposures of the slopes offer a variety of microclimates.

Our philosophy is to let the terroir express itself and to avoid excessive extraction, alcohol, or wood. In contrast to the intense and fast extraction of tannins necessary for port production, we practice a slow method. Long macerations are the key to producing an elegant and balanced wine with length and minerality.
